Crime Mapping

This week we moved on to GIS and Crime. We analyzed crime dat from Washington DC in August of 2009. Our first map was a basemap which showed the locations of Police Stations and Crimes.

The next map was a Density map for three specific types of Crime in DC. After that, we looked at how time can affect crime.

Finally, we examined the Drug Free zones around schools. We created a 1000 ft buffer layer and highlighted which schools had a high number of crimes within these buffers. Not all of my data was geocoded correctly for this part of the exercise, btu I got results with the limited data. There were some drug crimes within the 1000 ft buffer on one of the schools.
